For this week's Spoonflower challenge, designers were asked to create a pattern inspired by Pantone's Colour of the Year for 2020, Classic Blue. To add to the challenge, Spoonflower provided only four tints of Classic Blue that could be used in the design. Also, unlike other monochromatic design challenges, black and white were not permitted, only the four monochromatic hues of Classic Blue could be used.

For my design, I was inspired by WGSN's Reconstructed Legacy, Architectural Forms trend for Autumn/Winter 2020/2021. Neoclassical elements such as columns, steps, and domes, as well as historical references were reworked to create a contemporary design. Since I was looking for a crisp, blue and near white design, I decided to not include any texture, but kept the design bold and graphic.

The stacked nature of the architectural forms and the colour palette reminded me of cliffside villages on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, in particular, Greece. The name of this design, Santorini, is a nod to these beautiful locations.
